West Tennessee is blessed with so many opportunities to see live theater. Yes, it probably costs more to go watch a performance live, but the talent these performers have is totally worth it. They don’t have 700 takes to get it right…just 1. As Neil Patrick Harris said in the opening of the 2013 Tony Awards, “See on Broadway we don’t need extreme close-ups to prove we are singing live. We sing live 8 shows a week, check it.” (yep, making fun of Tom Hooper’s adaptation of the musical Les Misérables to a movie.)
You don’t have to go to New York City or Chicago to see live performances. West Tennessee has a surplus of theaters to experience music, dancing, drama and comedy. There’s the Orpheum, Playhouse on the Square, Cannon Center, Hattiloo Theater, Levitt Shell, GPAC, Germantown Community Theater, Harrell Theatre, Ruffin Theater, The Little Theater of Crittenden and so many more. There is something for everyone to enjoy at the theater. So instead of going to the movies, which you can watch at home, get out to these unique performance halls and check out something live!
