It’s finally arrived…2015! As we ring in the new year, we all begin to get our resolutions together and fill our superstitious tummies with food to bring us luck, wealth, and happiness. Many of us have the same type of resolutions: losing weight, work out more, eat healthier, save money, cautious spending…pretty much the same every year. However this year, why don’t you make a resolution to explore new places that you’ve never been. No, I don’t mean head over to Hong Kong, Rome, Budapest, or Rio, how about just take a DayTrip.
These towns have a vibrant culture and heritage that is an extension of Memphis’s. Walk the footsteps of Civil War soldiers, Herb Parson, Isaac Hayes, Justin Timberlake, B.B. King, and John Grisham. They are all from outside of Memphis, whether DeSoto County in Mississippi, Crittenden County in Arkansas, Tipton, Lauderdale, or Fayette County in Tennessee, these famous, inspirational people are from small communities and towns just outside of Memphis. What inspired them and how did their small town influence them?
But, there is no need to forget your other resolutions like, loosing weight, work out more, but make them more interesting. There are three state parks in West TN: T.O. Fuller State Park, Fort Pillow State Park, and Shelby Forest-Meeman State Park; go hiking, walking, fishing, and much more while surrounding yourself with the natural beauty of west TN. Or take a bike ride or stroll down the Greenline that extends from the Mississippi River out to Germantown and Collierville.
